Staci's Story

I was 53 years old when I was diagnosed with synchronous primary cancer. That means I had 2 primary cancers at once, ovarian (stage 1A) and endometrial (stage 3A). Symptoms started out as spotting which I excused as menopause, pelvic pain and a pulling sensation, which I excused as results of doing a core workout, and bloating. Once the bloating started that’s when I knew something was wrong. I went to the doctor and she felt around and said she didn’t feel anything and to monitor it and if it got worse then come back. I asked her if I could get a CT scan just to be safe and she agreed. The scan showed a 21cm mass in my pelvic area that was highly suspicious of cancer. I met with my oncologist and surgery was scheduled 2 weeks later. I had a complete hysterectomy with the mass removal. All I remember hearing is my oncologist saying I had 2 cancers, everything else was a blur. I’m glad I had my sister and best friend with me. My treatments consisted of 25 radiation treatments, 3 brachytherapies, 6 chemos, and now I am currently on Keytruda (I have 3 more to go). What I have learned through this journey is be your own advocate, you know your body and if something doesn’t feel right then be proactive. Know that your health is in your hands. I am proud to be part of TN in Teal so we can educate and spread awareness about ovarian cancer.

We would love for you to share your story.
