I am a survivor.
When I was seventeen years old, I was rushed to the hospital for an appendectomy. I had been sick for several days with a fever and swelling of the abdomen. It was not my appendix. It was ovarian cancer. The ovary was removed and no treatment was done.
Three years later, my other ovary was removed. Similar symptoms as the first time. Just a steady fever, sluggish, and the bloated/swollen abdomen. A different type of ovarian cancer. Still no way of detecting it. I don’t know if being able to detect it has been found, but the commonality for me was the fever and bloating or swollen abdomen.
I truly feel that having and keeping a positive attitude along with courage and hope is what makes a survivor. Here I am sixty-five years later telling my story and asking you to keep the faith so you, too, will be sharing your survivor story.
