Volunteer Spotlight: Pamela Holden and Tennessee in Teal

Tennessee in Teal continues to grow thanks to the passion and dedication of volunteers who help spread ovarian cancer awareness across the state. One of those dedicated volunteers is Pamela Holden, who was recently featured in a Spotlight on Volunteers article highlighting her work with the organization.

Pamela and her husband moved to Tellico Village in 2020, where she quickly became involved in community activities. Not long after meeting Jan Lushbaugh, founder of Tennessee in Teal, Pamela learned more about ovarian cancer and the lack of early detection screening for the disease. After attending a presentation and hearing from survivors, she felt called to help raise awareness and support women affected by ovarian cancer.

Ovarian cancer is often referred to as the “silent killer” because symptoms can be vague and difficult to detect early. Because there is currently no reliable screening test, awareness and education are critical to helping women recognize the signs and seek medical attention sooner.

Pamela now serves as Vice President of Tennessee in Teal and plays an important role in organizing events, fundraising efforts, and outreach programs. The organization regularly hosts presentations for civic groups, churches, and community organizations to educate people about ovarian cancer symptoms and the importance of advocacy and research.

Through volunteer efforts and community support, Tennessee in Teal has expanded its outreach across multiple Tennessee cities including Knoxville, Chattanooga, Nashville, Maryville, and Pigeon Forge. The organization also hosts events such as awareness walks, golf tournaments, and fundraisers that help support ovarian cancer research and patient education.

For Pamela, the work is deeply personal and meaningful. She often shares that every time she speaks about ovarian cancer awareness, she hopes the message will help someone recognize symptoms earlier or encourage others to support those currently battling the disease.

Volunteers remain at the heart of Tennessee in Teal’s mission. Their dedication helps the organization continue raising awareness, supporting survivors, and advocating for improved research and early detection.
